What to Expect on Class Day at DE Guns
The DE Guns Nebraska Concealed Handgun Permit Course is structured to provide an optimal learning environment. Doors open promptly at 9:00 AM, initiating a full day of instruction.
- Morning Session: The initial hours are spent in our comfortable, private classroom, focusing on the legal aspects of concealed carry, firearm safety principles, and handgun mechanics. This interactive session encourages questions and discussion to ensure thorough understanding.
- Dry Fire Training: After the theoretical instruction, students will move into practical dry fire exercises within the classroom. This is a crucial step for developing safe drawing techniques and refining trigger control in a controlled, non-live environment. Absolutely NO LIVE AMMUNITION is permitted in the classroom at any time. All ammunition must remain locked in your vehicle until you are instructed to bring it to the range.
- Lunch Break: A one-hour lunch break is provided, allowing students to refresh before the live-fire session.

Essential Equipment for Your Course
To ensure a productive and safe learning experience, students are required to bring specific equipment. Please remember: DE Guns DOES NOT LOAN GUNS for this course. You must bring your own firearm.
- Eye and Ear Protection: Mandatory for all range activities.
- Pistol or Revolver: Your personal handgun must be in safe working condition. Keep your firearm securely stored in your vehicle until explicitly instructed by your instructor to bring it into the range area.
- Magazines or Speed Loaders: A minimum of two (2) magazines for semi-automatic pistols or two (2) speed loaders for revolvers. This facilitates efficient practice and reduces downtime.
- Good Belt: A sturdy, rigid belt is essential to support your holster and handgun comfortably and securely.
- Holster: An outside-the-waistband (OWB) holster is highly recommended for ease of drawing and re-holstering during training. Ensure it is specifically designed for your handgun model and allows for a safe, consistent draw. Your shirt or jacket should be able to cover it to simulate concealed carry.
- Ammunition: You will need 100 rounds of ammunition suitable for your handgun. Ensure it is new, factory-loaded ammunition for optimal safety and performance.
- Loose & Lightweight Garment: Bring a shirt or jacket that can easily cover your OWB holster and handgun, allowing for practice drawing from a concealed carry position.
- Appropriate Range Attire: Dress comfortably and safely for a range environment. This means no low-cut shirts (to prevent hot brass from falling onto exposed skin) and closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops or sandals).
Crucial Safety Protocols:
For the safety of all participants and instructors, strict protocols are enforced:
- NO LIVE AMMUNITION IN THE CLASSROOM, EVER! This rule is non-negotiable. Your firearm may only be brought into the classroom if specifically authorized by an instructor for inspection or dry fire demonstration, and it must be confirmed unloaded.
- All ammunition must remain locked in your vehicle until you are at the range and instructed to retrieve it.
- Follow all instructor commands immediately and without hesitation.
Eligibility for Enrollment
To enroll in the DE Guns Nebraska Concealed Handgun Permit Course, you must meet the following criteria:
- Age: Be at least 18 years old. Please note that while the course can be taken at 18, the state of Nebraska requires you to be 21 years old to apply for the actual CHP. Taking the course at 18 allows for early training and preparation.
- Identification: Possess a valid government-issued identification (e.g., driver's license, state ID).
- Basic Firearm Familiarity: You should have basic familiarity with your chosen handgun. While our instructors are highly experienced, this course focuses on concealed carry laws and techniques, not introductory handgun operation. If you are entirely new to firearms, we recommend taking a foundational handgun safety course prior to enrolling in the CHP class.
